What's new?
With over thirty years of experience under my belt, you could say I have some pet peeves about what students do and how writing is taught. My series What Not To Teach is now available on Substack! Posts are free to read, but if you subscribe, you'll get updates to follow.

Prose & Cons is here!
I am very excited to announce that a project I’ve been developing for the past nine years has finally come to fruition!
Announcing PROSE & CONS, a literary card game.
Originally conceived as a fun way for my literature students to think about the books they’d studied, Prose & Cons allows players to select refreshing and entertaining descriptions for well-known literary characters. Choices range from perfectly fitting to curiously offbeat, and are drawn from popular phrases, song lyrics, slang, and buzzwords — and it doesn’t really matter if you know the character or not; other players will be amused by the cards everyone submits.
The initial master pack features 60 character cards and 240 description cards, comes in a gorgeous book-shaped box, and is suitable for all ages.
Available worldwide now!
